Reader Guy L. recently tipped us off to what looks to be a promising barn find auction in Bridgeport, England. Not only are there a number of interesting cars being offered, but a large collection of vintage automobile memorabilia as well. The auction house, Busby Salerooms, doesn’t offer much information about where most of these cars were discovered, but obviously they weren’t all found in the same barn. The auction is scheduled to take place on October 19th at their salesroom in Bridgeport.
There are bills to pay and cars to save, so a large corporate sponsor would be really nice. For a short time we even considered wearing AW hats at all times, but have since decided that there might be better ways to finance things around here. Instead we are going to work with a few smaller companies who sell products that we feel comfortable recommending. Ross Vasse’s new book, Making Money Finding, Buying and Selling Old Cars, is one of them. Ross’ website may look like an infomercial, but the practical advice contained in the book is useful for those new to the hobby. It’s not cheap, but a money back guarantee removes the risk and the free price guide is a nice bonus too. Take a look here on his site where you can read a preview or order your own copy. Thanks Ross!
What is likely to be one of the most anticipated auctions of the decade is nearly upon us. If you haven’t already heard about the Lambrecht Chevrolet Company and its collection of untouched classic cars, you must be hiding under a rock. We featured the story a few months back and since then it has exploded. While we hope these cars go to good homes, we can’t help but wonder if all this publicity hasn’t gotten out of control. For the most part, this site has covered North American barn finds. We know there are discoveries made all over the world everyday though, with some of the best ones in Europe, so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on what is going on over there. This stash of 13 pre-war Rolls-Royces were recently pulled out of a garage in a small town in the UK and will be going to auction on October 16 at H&H’s Imperial War Museum sale. The lineup is impressive, but we were unable to find much information on how this collection came to be. Read more »
It is time for the BF 2nd Annual Photo Contest! We are looking for high quality shots of forgotten classics sitting in barns, garages, allies, or fields. The photos need to be high resolution (preferably 2200 x 1700 or larger) and all submissions must be in by the end of this month. Be sure to include information about the vehicle and how you found it. The very best photos will be featured in the 2014 Barn Finds calendar and all winners will receive a free copy! Email all your submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Reader Guy K. sent us a message on facebook about an upcoming auction in the United Kingdom that he thought might interest us. And boy was he right! The auction is being held by Anglia Car Auctions in the United Kingdom and features over 200 Porsches from a private collection in north west England. The auction house is splitting it up with the first 30 cars set to hit the block on August 24th.
The 2013 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance took place Sunday, March 10 at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton. Featured cars for the 18th edition of the event included the Ford GT40, Porsche 911, Corvette Sting Ray, cars of Lamborghini, motorcycles of Ducati and race cars by Harry Miller. Sam Posey, driver turned journalist, was this year’s Honored Chairman. A small fleet of cars from Sam’s racing career were also displayed. The Concours was graced with near perfect weather after a somewhat cool start to the weekend. Brad Stahl, was on hand to document the event.
If you haven’t already heard, the largest collection of microcars ever assembled is going to auction tomorrow! Bruce Weiner has spent many years traveling the globe in pursuit of the most unlikely of collector cars and he has housed them in their own museum. We are actually sort of sad to see the collection broke up, but it could be a good opportunity to buy a late Valentine’s Day gift for your sweetheart! Take a look at RM’s catalog and let us know which ones you would go for.
I’m sure a few of you are already in Scottsdale or are headed there today for the big auctions. Unfortunately none of the BF staff can make it, but we have still been looking through the catalogs and dreaming. There are some very significant cars coming to market and even a few barn finds. Here are our top picks from each auction house.
Well, 2012 is almost over and it has been a great year for us here at Barn Finds. We have featured some interesting cars over the past twelve months. That has been a lot of fun, but what really made it special was getting to read everyone’s comments. All of our loyal readers are what make Barn Finds so great and we just want to thank you. We consider you all friends. Have a safe and very happy New Year!
